The Nagele Obstetrical Forceps are used to aid delivery of the baby during inadequate force by the mother or shoulder dystocia, breech delivery and prolonged labor to expedite the delivery. The instrument consists of two forceps attached via a lock to handles. The two jaws can be separated and are fenestrated for minimal tissue injury. During delivery, the obstetrician inserts one blade and adjusts the curve of the jaw against the fetal head. She then inserts the second jaw into place and clicks the lock together to gently pull the baby out.
