ZERODUR® glass-ceramic

ZERODUR® is a low-thermal-expansion glass-ceramic with exceptional properties ideal for applications requiring exceptionally low thermal expansion materials. It features a unique two-phase microscopic system with micro-crystals that contract while their surrounding glass matrix expands, resulting in near-zero overall expansion. The material is suitable for applications involving mechanical loads up to 100 MPa and offers exceptional 3D homogeneity with remarkably low levels of inclusions, striae, and bulk stress. ZERODUR® is available in highly customizable shapes with advanced grinding and polishing capabilities resulting in roughness below several nanometers, and can be light-weighted by up to 80% while maintaining mechanical stability. It is now the industry standard for ultra-precise mirror substrates in astronomy.
