The guide covers: STAGE 1: DISINFECTION - Contaminated instruments must undergo decontamination and washing before being sterilized. Prior disinfection to material washing must be done with appropriate chemical agent. The guide also covers waste vs. residue differentiation, including infectious materials or biological residues such as cotton, gauze or any material containing blood or body fluids. Surface disinfection in the office should be done with an intermediate-level disinfectant that destroys vegetative bacteria, mycobacteria, most viruses and fungi. Designated intermediate-level disinfectants include: 5th generation Ammonium Quaternary plus Polyhexamide biguanide, 70% Alcohol, 1% Sodium Hypochlorite.
