Study on audit and feedback intervention for reducing antibiotic prescribing in general dental practice. 795 NHS dental practices in Scotland participated. Control group comprised 163 practices with 567 dentists. Intervention group A&F comprised 632 practices with 1999 dentists, subdivided into two groups: Group 1 received monthly antibiotic prescriptions visualized in line diagrams; Group 2 received additional written behavior change messages. Results showed antibiotic prescriptions per 100 NHS treatments decreased from 8.3 in control group and 8.5 in intervention group at baseline. At follow-up, control practices showed 0.4 reduction per 100 treatments while intervention practices showed 1.0 reduction. The intervention combining feedback and guideline recommendations had the greatest effect on reducing antibiotic prescribing rates among dentists.
